A forward-looking organization, B\u00e2tirente is also very proud of its roots. At the 2020 annual general meeting, Pierre Patry, then Chair of the Board of Directors, unveiled the creation of an honour roll as a tribute to the organization\u2019s Builders. The honour roll highlights the Builders and their exceptional contributions that have enabled B\u00e2tirente to successfully carry out its mission today. B\u00e2tirente was created through the will of CSN activists who, in the 1980s, remained committed to the idea of offering a group retirement plan to the affiliated members of the CSN. Mr. Beaulieu, one of the three founders of B\u00e2tirente and former President and CEO of Fondaction, left the Board of Directors in 2020 after serving for 33 continuous years, including his role of Chaiman from 1987 to 1999. L\u00e9opold Beaulieu\u2019s nomination is an evocative demonstration of his place in B\u00e2tirente\u2019s history.<\/p>\n Before his retirement in January 2020, L\u00e9opold Beaulieu was President and CEO of Fondaction, the Fund for cooperation and employment of the CSN, since its inception in 1996. Treasurer of the CSN from 1976 to 1996, he was instrumental in the creation of several of the CSN\u2019s economic intervention tools, such as the Caisse d\u2019\u00e9conomie solidaire Desjardins, MCE Conseils, B\u00e2tirente and Fondaction. From 1988 to 1995, he was B\u00e2tirente\u2019s Chairman of the Board of Directors, and has since remained on the Board as a representative of the CSN. He is President of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research and Information on Community Enterprises (CIRIEC-Canada) and Honorary President of CIRIEC International. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) from 2006 to 2015.
