Montr\u00e9al, June\u00a06, 2025 <\/strong>\u2013 B\u00e2tirente held its annual general meeting today simultaneously in Qu\u00e9bec City, Longueuil and online, in front of about 100 group representatives and partners. Board Chair Yvan Duceppe and CEO \u00c9ric Filion proudly presented the organization’s results and accomplishments<\/a>.<\/p>\n

B\u00e2tirente sealed its place in history in\u00a02024 and set the course for meeting the future needs of unions and their members. For example, B\u00e2tirente gave its members access to one of the first tax-free first home savings account (FHSA) plans. It also continued expanding accessibility to its savings solutions, thanks to reduced fees. In addition, the board undertook major work leading up to the September\u00a02024 decision to have B\u00e2tirente and Fondaction join forces as of January 1, 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201cB\u00e2tirente\u2019s union-centred mission and governance remain strong and intact. Still, this joining of B\u00e2tirente and Fondaction helps bring together our teams, our expertise and our ability to act on behalf of our members and shareholders in a strengthened, long-term vision that ultimately benefits our unions and their members. Once again, in\u00a02024, B\u00e2tirente proved that its offer is able to meet the needs and challenges that arise,\u201d noted Yvan Duceppe.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the commitment and outstanding loyalty of the 332\u00a0unions and groups across Qu\u00e9bec that form the backbone of the corporation, B\u00e2tirente is continuing the mission it started in\u00a01987. \u201cBeing the trusted partner of CSN-affiliated unions, by guiding their members on their path to financial well-being until retirement: that\u2019s our dedicated mission,\u201d emphasized CEO \u00c9ric\u00a0Filion.<\/p>\n

Climate commitment<\/strong>
\nAs a responsible investment leader, B\u00e2tirente unveiled its ambitious climate commitment<\/a> in\u00a02020. Today, we are proud to have succeeded in accelerating the achievement of our plan\u2019s commitments. \u201cThe climate crisis is a real issue of concern for our unions and their members. Through its climate commitment, B\u00e2tirente seeks a global approach to responsible investment. But there\u2019s still much to be done to meet the challenges created by the climate crisis,\u201d noted \u00c9ric Filion. Since\u00a02018, B\u00e2tirente has more than tripled its impact investing, from $75M to $264M. We have also reduced greenhouse gas emissions attributable to B\u00e2tirente Funds\u2019 equity portfolios by 56%.<\/p>\n

Board elections<\/strong>
\nThe annual general meeting saw the election of the following CSN-designated representatives: Genevi\u00e8ve Morin, CEO\u2014Regroupement de B\u00e2tirente et Fondaction<\/em>; and Marie-\u00c8ve Pinard, Union Advisor, CISP-CCGN Coordinator, and CSN Negotiation Support Team Coordinator. The two members elected as group representatives were Nicolas Docquier of the Syndicat national des employ\u00e9s du papier de Candiac<\/em> labour union, for a third term; and Pierre Leduc of the Syndicat national des produits chimiques de Valleyfield<\/em> union, for his fifth term. Also elected as designated independent members: H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Jacques, President\u2014Solutions EPCC, for a third term; and Martine Robert, President\u2014OZ Concept, for her first term.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to highlight the commitment of all B\u00e2tirente board directors and congratulate those elected at this meeting, as well as every individual who completed their term in\u00a02024, having loyally contributed to the corporation for many years,\u201d said B\u00e2tirente Board Chair, Yvan\u00a0Duceppe, in closing.<\/p>\n

About B\u00e2tirente<\/strong>
\nB\u00e2tirente is a group retirement system created in\u00a01987 at the initiative of the CSN. It allows almost 30,000 workers and retirees, grouped in over 300\u00a0labour unions, to benefit from pension plans tailored to their needs by pooling their savings.<\/p>\n
