Montréal, October 28, 2021 – As a recognized leader in responsible investment, Bâtirente is firmly committed to the climate. In recent months, we have taken concrete steps that bring us closer to meeting our goals set for 2025. The ambitious engagement we undertook one year ago attests to our commitment to ensuring our portfolios’ resilience and performance in response to climate change. Greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced; at the same time, we need to facilitate the funding of solutions while convincing companies to commit to increasing their energy efficiency and migrating to renewable energy. Today we unveil positive and encouraging results for the future:
  • Overall, our portfolios’ carbon footprint for 2020 is 17% less than that of its benchmark portfolios. We should also mention the 14% decrease in our carbon intensity after two years, which is in line with our target.
  • We significantly increased our impact investments to actively contribute to environmental solutions and take part in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
  • Our partner Æquo, Shareholder Engagement Services held dialogues on our behalf with 32 companies on various climate themes.
  • We are proud to be a partner and founding member of Climate Engagement Canada (CEC) as well as a signatory to the new [wpfilebase tag=fileurl id=357 linktext='*Canadian Investor Statement on Climate Change' /] drafted by the Responsible Investment Association (RIA), which illustrates our wish to collaborate and dedicate ourselves to climate concerns.
“Responsible investment has been at the heart of Bâtirente’s values and actions for decades and will continue to be so going forward. We recognize that climate change is a major threat, and that collective action is urgently needed. Thanks to our ambitious climate commitment, Bâtirente contributes to the well-being of its members and that of the planet,” says Bâtirente CEO Éric Filion.
