Montréal, April 21, 2023 – On the occasion of Earth Day on April 22nd, Bâtirente is announcing that it will plant 35 trees this spring as part of the celebrations marking its 35th anniversary. Committed to climate protection since its founding, Bâtirente will make a concrete gesture in the fight against climate change to counter urban heat islands in Montréal. This operation will take place thanks to the expertise of Soverdi, a Bâtirente member group, whose mission these past 30 years has been to grow the urban forest to improve the population’s health and quality of life. In 2020, Bâtirente unveiled its ambitious climate commitment and took concrete steps toward it. We feel confident that these actions bring us closer to meeting our goals for 2025. This commitment is based on measured and achievable ambitions—a challenge for our entire civilization—to tackle the global warming issue. “Given the climate crisis, it is important for Bâtirente to take strong action. These 35 trees for our 35 years in existence represent our desire to contribute to this fight in every way possible. These trees will attest to our ability to make a sustainable impact that ensures our members’ successful retirement while helping the planet,” said Bâtirente CEO Éric Filion. About Bâtirente Bâtirente is a group retirement system created in 1987 at the initiative of the CSN. It allows 27,000 workers, grouped in 319 labour unions, to benefit from pension plans tailored to their needs by pooling their savings. A leader in responsible investing, Bâtirente believes that actively managing its investee companies’ environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks helps ensure sound capitalization of the pension plan as well as long-term economic and social development, which are both required for sustainable financial performance.
