• Thanks to a new investment in green bonds, Bâtirente continues its commitment to responsible investing
  • Bâtirente announces the selection of new managers for the Bâtirente Canadian Equity Multi Fund
Montréal, December 5, 2017 – Bâtirente is pleased to announce a $15 million investment which will contribute to the inception of a green bond fund that will be set up and managed by AlphaFixe Capital, a long-standing partner. With nearly 5% of its assets invested in energy transition, this investment reinforces Bâtirente’s leadership in responsible investing. “The investment in this fund allows us to combine performance and social responsibility.” highlights Mr. Daniel Simard, Chief Executive Officer. “Everyone is aware that global warming is a significant risk that will very likely have an impact on the environment as well as a direct impact on us, on the risk level and the performance of our funds.” This is Bâtirente’s second major investment in this field. A mandate was given to AGF in 2016 to manage a portion of the Bâtirente Global Equity Multi Fund. The investment in the AGF Global Sustainable Growth Equity Fund is presently valued at $13.5 million. “With these two major investments, Bâtirente currently has almost 5% of its total assets invested directly in energy transition. This confirms our commitment to be a leader in this field.” says Ms. Louise Charette, Chief Investment Officer. Bâtirente announces the selection of two new Canadian equity managers Subsequent to a performance review of the Bâtirente Canadian Equity Multi Fund, the firms Foyston, Gordon & Payne and Allard, Allard and Associates were both selected to manage a part of this Fund. These managers are in addition to Triasima, the long-time manager of the fund. “These three managers offer complementary styles that will allow the optimization of our members’ risk profile.” mentions Louise Charette, Bâtirente’s Chief Investment Officer. When the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) was launched in 2006, Bâtirente was one of the original signatories. As such, Bâtirente implemented innovative practices that clearly demonstrate its commitment to responsible investing. About Bâtirente Bâtirente is a group retirement system created in 1987 at the initiative of the CSN. It allows 20,000 workers, grouped in 300 labour unions, to benefit from pension plans tailored to their needs by pooling their savings. A pioneer in responsible investing in Quebec, Bâtirente believes that actively managing its investee companies’ environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks helps ensure long-term economic and social development, as well as sound capitalization of the pension plan, which are both required for sustainable financial performance.
